NIST Releases Security Standards for Federal SystemsThe National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) released Special Publication 800-53, titled Recommended Security Controls for Federal Information Systems and Organizations. This document addresses information security standards and guidelines, including minimum requirements for federal information systems. Released as part of NIST?s statutory responsibilities under the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA), this publication is geared toward information system and information security professionals who develop, implement, operate, manage, or assess/monitor federal information systems.
