Certainly a captivating concept, but what kind of analysis can be done on such systems in order to derive properties and behavior of the overall system?

talked about probabilistic methods for analysis of large scale distributed systems (e.g. buildings). Talked about quality of service. I am wondering what metrics are used for quality of service, what are the important probalistic quantities to analyze.
