External Advisory Board
The Team for Research in Ubiquitous Secure Technology (TRUST) External Advisory Board (EAB) is a distinguished
group of experts from industry, academia, government, and non-profits whose guidance supplements the strategic planning by TRUST management and the TRUST Executive Board. The primary mission of the EAB is to offer an independent assessment of TRUST research, education, outreach, and diversity goals, plans, and accomplishments. EAB input plays a crucial role in the annual revision of the TRUST strategic plan.
Effectiveness of the TRUST EAB is directly related to its ability to offer unbiased counsel. As such,
self-governance is a guiding principle in the EAB's charter. EAB members are appointed for three (3) year
terms and the EAB is headed by a chairperson, who is also appointed for a term of three (3) years.
The National Science Foundation policies on conflict of interest govern the independence of the EAB and
require that EAB members do not have financial interests or collaborations with faculty and staff being
supported by TRUST funding.
The EAB meets annually and performs the following functions:
- First, the EAB reviews the TRUST strategic plan, project plans, and annual report on research, education,
outreach, and knowledge transfer. Unfettered Q&A sessions during TRUST briefs facilitate collecting information
on pivotal points.
- Second, the EAB conducts deliberations, which occur in closed session presided by the EAB chairperson.
- Third, the EAB produces a report and presents its findings to the TRUST Executive Board and the Vice
Chancellor of Research at the TRUST lead institution, the University of California, Berkeley.
